Multi purpose stationery and brand identity
When creating business stationery, designing a new businesses logo or gathering photos, graphics, video media etc for a marketing project, it is worth looking over all the purposes that you might put these assets to. You might say well that’s pretty obvious, but you would be surprised how often media is created for one purpose, paid for, and then to discover it won’t work for another. A common problem is authoring media for web which by nature is small, compact and at computer screen resolution and finding it turns into a mushy mosaic when produced as an exhibition banner!
We try to ensure your money is spent in the right way developing media assets that you only pay for once and can use for may purposes
As a recent example we have just produced a range of stationery and marketing media for two new companies CC Two video services and Set & Staging conference equipment hire. Using logo design provided by Neil Phipps a local designer Applause has created artwork for the conventional letterheads, comp slips, business cards. But also provided more specific print and online solutions for email stationery, bar code labelling, dvd digipack cases, powerpoint and proposal document templates and exhibition pop up banners.

Sales Conference Awards
Usually at the Annual Sales Conference there are some special awards to those staff members who have contributed something outstanding to the organisation over the year. These often take the form of ‘Oscar’ ceremonies with dry ice, reveals celebrity presenters and all the razzamatazz. However with the financial sector tightening its belt somewhat at the present one of our clients wanted a simple low cost means of generating some expectation from the assembled sales force.
The Applause thinking cap was worn and we came up with a simple interactive ‘wheel of fortune’ that could be played in with the powerpoint presentations for each category of award. The names of all delegates present were entered and displayed at random as the sales director announced the runners up and at the press of a key the names steadily slowed finishing on the winner. Simple, elegant and effective. A roar sprung from the audience as the display slowed – with many prospective winners thinking is it me!, is it me! – like waiting for the sixth ball on the lottery – well almost.
If you think this would be a useful tool for you – we have one on the shelf waiting!!
Hélélé African Soul & Jazz
On the Arts front Applause has been designing CD covers and duplicating CDs for Alphonse Daudet Touna African Jazz band HéLéLé for a number of years producing 3 titles to date.
Alphonse plays a balafon (an African marimba) he made himself. The rich balafon melody creates another style of afro jazz through a mix of forest rhythms such as Assiko, Bikoutsi, Makouné, Makossa and Bolobo.
The concerts they play are spontaneous and alive. Full of vibration and energy, the band elevate the crowd through the body language of dance. And for the mind, great solos are weaved within the framework of rare grooves and percussion.
Pensford Wine Festival
On the back of the Pensford Beer Festival which had its first outing in July 2008 and proved to be a roaring success the organising committee, as well as now planning the second beer festival, have organised the first Pensford Wine Festival to be held on the 14th of March in a few weeks time.
John Durston of the West of England Wine & Spirits Association has been persuaded to put together tutored tasting of new and classic wine styles and this will be followed by an evening of entertainment and tastings of around 30 of his specially selected favourites from around the world.
Applause had produced the Beer Fest website last year and were asked to produce the Wine Festival site together with promotional leaflets and posters plus display graphics for the event itself. It is fair to say we rather like jobs like this can you guess why!?
If you hail from around Pensford, South Bristol or North Somerset checkout the information on www.pensfordwinefest.co.uk
and make a beeline for this not to missed event.
Delegate Registration Web Facility
An interesting crossover between the web site development and conference media work at Applause has been online Delegate Registration.
The traditional method of paper and fax based registration is increasingly giving way to completely electronic paperless solutions which save considerable resource, time and money. By combining our hosting facilities, web and database skills with our working knowledge of venue finding and delegate registration processes, we are able to offer website based systems, either off the shelf or customised to your specific needs.
Information is secure behind a login panel. Delegates can either be given a generic username and password for access and to enter their own information or a client mysql database can be installed with unique login for known delegates who may then access and update their information and provide the required registration details. This is particularly useful for large organisations running internal conference events. The delegate registration site can be specifically branded to the event or the organisation’s brand guidelines and apart from enabling delegates to register on-line provides online status reports, enhanced visitor experience and simplifies complex tasks.

Premier Business Audio – Flash Audio Mixer
Premier Business audio help their clients to stand-out from their competitors, by maximising each point of contact by considering sensory contacts that are often overlooked. One of these being audio.
PBA wanted to be able to give visitors to their website the ability to ‘play’ with sound, mixing various music and voice over tracks to see how this service could help their marketing efforts. Applause provided an interactive audio mixer, programmed in Flash actionscript 3, which enabled viewers to select modules such as ‘Christmas Messages’, Business to Business, ‘On-Hold Messaging’ then pick from a selection of tracks and then mix them to create differing effects. The finished Flash .swf file was emailed to PBA who themselves programmed it into their Content Managed web site.

Burges Salmon – Cleantech Podcast
Established Bristol legal firm Burges Salmon called us to help with one of their Corporate Finance Network events early in October – The Cleantech Question Time.
In the context of rising fuel costs and an increasing worldwide drive for greener solutions, Cleantech is seen by many as a growth sector where investors have a real opportunity for returns. During the event presentations were to be given by Chris Matthews, Senior Business Development Manager, Renewable Energy Team at the Co-op Bank and comment from our expert panel: James Thomas of ICON Corporate Finance, Andrew Page of Foresight Group, Mark Crosier, CEO of DeepStream Technologies, Phil Nicholas, CEO of Inetec and Peter Horsburgh of the Environmental Technologies Fund.
A panel discussion followed on a wide range of issues raised during the event including: what is meant by ‘cleantech’, the debate over the energy gap, the impact of the credit crunch for cleantech companies seeking funding and their expectations for 2009 and beyond.
Burges Salmon wanted to extend the value seminar by providing podcasts of the presentation and discussions which could then be listened to online or downloaded on to ipod and mp3 players.
Applause recorded the presentations, audience questions and panel responses. The resulting audio files were cleaned and edited the following day and encoded to windows media player and ipod compatible files and delivered via a web hosted facility. Burges Salmon’s IT people then linked to the files on BS website.

St. Patrick’s Music Group
If you live in and around Bristol and have an interest in music take a look at St. Pat’s Music Group site. They raise money to help local children further their musical talents by arranging musical events four or five times a year. This has been running for a couple of years now and some of the highlights that come to mind are the Canadian Orpheus Male Voice Choir, the Exultate Singers, The York Waites, guitarist John Byrne and more recently in October Shebeen an Irish folk band.
You can also get involved by becoming a friend of the Music Group or sponsoring an event. Applause sponsored a performance by clarinettist Luca Luciano in February of this year.
